Dog breaking and other thoughts – 14th May 2008

Another wonderfully sunny day.  I am one of those people who has piles of books on the go at any one time.  Lately I have been thumbing through a (relatively) famous book by Major General W. N. Hutchinson on dog training.  The book came out in the mid 1800s and its title makes me laugh – ‘Dog Breaking: The Most Expeditious, Certain And Easy Method, Whether Great Excellence Or Only Mediocrity Be Required’

I spent an hour this evening exercising Grace on the racecourse.  We practiced recall and I dropped her to the whistle at irregular intervals.  She was really pretty good.  It dawned on me that with a little more time and practice I may reach mediocrity.
